Run For Your Life

The game that feels like it never ends, but it does….

It’s the game that many people liked. Steph was the girl who organised the game. Steph explained all the rules and the places you’re not allowed to go.

There were three teams with the colours of red, green, or black. Red means you’re a carnivore, green means you’re a herbivore, and black means you’re a disease. The teachers had a water pistol, and when they saw you they would shoot you with it.

Some people really had a lot of fun!  Taiha thought it was fun and she liked it.

“It wasn’t my favourite, but it was o.k. I don’t know any one who didn’t like it at all.” Jemma said.

To get to the survival game you had to go down a hill, down some stairs, and through lots of bushes.

The teachers for Group 1 were Mrs. Eddy and Mr. Knight. Some people didn’t get shot by both teachers; some of them only got shot by one.

Taming the Wild River!

Canoeing is fairly easy when you’re first taught to paddle, and it is also easy to steer the boat. When you begin you need 2 or 3 people, but otherwise you can have a 1 man canoe.

The river was in a donkey paddock, and there were donkeys in the paddock. When the wind was very forceful the canoe would slowly blow to the side of the river.

Daniel was the instructor of the canoeing. He was very experienced with canoeing, so he knew that everyone was safe. He taught everyone how to paddle properly and steer properly.

Mrs. Makin put unexperienced people with experienced people so everyone would be okay.

“Canoeing was very fun and exciting, but it was not my first time.” Miss Mosley said.

“Riding in the canoes was fun but also a bit boring. It also was hard paddling.” William S. said.

“Everything was easy, and I found it very fun and exciting.” Taiha C. said.

“I really enjoyed it, and it was really easy. I was kind of experienced.” Maddy W. said.

“I liked the torpedo game and when Dan did the pelican walk.” Tom D. said.

“I thought it was fun paddling up the river and my canoe went the longest way out.” Peter L. said.

“It was pretty easy and it was also my first time. I also thought that it was easy to paddle.” Breelle M. said.

“I felt very excited and very happy. I also found it hard to paddle.” Ruby W. said.

“I felt very excited but it was not my first time.” Emma F. said.

“I felt like the donkey was going to eat us!” Josh C. said.

Ruff Rules The Sing Along

On Tuesday the 22nd of August, at about 9:00pm, The Bellaire Middle Unit were at camp Kangaroobie, some people went for a 45 minute bus trip to see the glow worms, others were at camp, having a sing along and a night walk.

The sing along was great fun. Firstly, the kids sang songs such as:

“Baby Bumble Bee”, “She’ll be coming round the mountain and “Old McDonald had a Ford”. Everyone sang many, many more. Peter L. was singing his head off!!

In the song “Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts”, the boys, sang it first, then the girls, then all of the kids sang it together as one big group.

The children got a camp song book so they knew the words for all of the songs.

Everyone was inside for the sing along. It was a room with a fire place in it and it was very warm, it was warm and cosy!! Everyone sat on a mat to sing.

At the end of each song Mr Pearce, our guitar player, chose a person to pick a song. They had to say the name of it and its number in the book.

“It was pretty average, I liked it!!” Peter said.

After the sing along the kids went for our night walk and then it was time for everyone to go to bed.

The Four Learners

At the recent Kangaroobie Camp there were four student teachers, two were boys and two are girls. They always gave people help when they couldn’t reach the ropes, assisting children getting into Matt’s Ute, and getting people ready for bed.

Student teachers were helping in every activity. So, if you went to hut building or any other activity, there would always be a student teacher.

The names of the student teachers were Miss Mosley, Miss Houk, Mr. Knight and Mr. Lavass.

Mrs. Eddy was there too, and she helped with canoeing.

“Yes, it was really fun and my favourite activity was the environmental game.” said Miss Mosley.

The kids thought it was fun because Miss Mosley and Mrs. Makin went around shooting people with water pistols.

“I got 16 people, and I thought that I did really well.” said Miss Mosley.

Miss Houk had to come in and tell Newfield to be quiet because people wouldn’t stop talking.

Miss Mosley had a very nice orange raincoat. It looked very nice but it wasn’t very good for camouflaging.

All of the student teachers were a lot of fun!

Apostles and Loch Ard, What Do You Get?

The Loch Ard and the Apostles at Port Campbell .Two of the most respected monarchs in Oz….. And Bellaire have just been there.

Stepping back in time is the word that Bellaire student Josh Conway said about the Apostles. The day was a Wednesday and the date the 23/8/06. The Bellaire students had the chance of a life time to see these famous and great places in Oz history and they made the most of it. There was a big argument about how many there were but at the end they were still arguing.

The bus driver Perce who is a mastermind at those things, said there was seven. The students spent about thirty minutes viewing the Apostles.

“Well they were good, but a couple fell down and I took a lot of photos. The good thing was I got front spot so I got a great view.” said Tom, just one of the one hundred keen onlookers.

After the great Apostles the students went back on three buses to see the Loch Ard Gorge. As the students went down the windy steps there were information stands that told you about the certain place.

This particular stand told us the story of the Loch Ard and how it unfolded. It was pretty amazing for most people but I don’t know why but, especially for one child, Patrick. This is what he thought of what the gorge would be like before we got there.

“No idea, I just thought the Loch Ard was just a beach! I didn’t know anything about the shipwreck either! I didn’t really know anything!” said the no thinker Pat.

“I thought it was great senery and a great view,” said Pat.

Mr Pearce said that one of the two survivors, Tom Pearce was his dads Great-grandson. But today he dropped a bombshell. It wasn’t Mr Pearce’s dad’s great-grandson! Luckily no one believed Mr Pearce.

This is what one of the student teachers, Miss Mosley thought of the Apostles and the Loch Ard in her American accent.

“I thought they were beautiful. I’ve never seen anything like them before. I enjoyed the story behind Loch Ard Gorge.” said Miss Mosley.

The Bellaire students really enjoyed that time and hopefully they will remember it for the rest of there lives.

Matt and Sophie Knock Camp Off The Charts

Monday the 21st of August the staff at Camp Kangaroobie was getting ready for a school and some noisy kids to arrive.

That school was called Bellaire Primary School and the kids were so excited that they kept talking and talking.

At half past the Bellaire students arrived at the camp. Matt, the boss of the camp, told the students what cabin they were in.

Steph and Dan were staff that helped with activities, and Sophie was Matt’s wife. Sophie helped out with the low ropes course and gave tips.

Christopher and Lachie were Matt’s sons, and Dan looked like Matt’s younger brother. Three ladies were working in the kitchen, and they made breakfast, lunch, and tea.

“I thought they were really nice and the cooks made good food.” said Jemma B.

“I thought they were really really nice.” said Emma F.

“Very friendly.” said Peter L.

“They were helpful and they were very nice.” said Josh C.

“I liked Steph’s accent and thought Matt and Dan were cool nice.” said Nick B.

“Nice, friendly, helpful and cool.” said Bethany D.

Pig Enjoys a Posterior Kiss!

Bellaire has gone to camp. There are lots of animals at Kangaroobie such as pigs, cows, sheep, dogs, and people.

To ride a pig you need to make friends with the pig.

“The best way to make friends with a pig is to kiss its backside.” said Matt, the owner of the camp.

There are two dogs at camp. One is very old and the other one is younger, but he is fairly old himself.

The sheep have just had babies and are still having them. The cows have had babies as well.
All of these animals were found and observed at Camp Kangaroobie.

Pop Goes the Balloons!!!!!

At Kangaroobie Camp all the groups got to participate in the archery activity. They needed a bow and an arrow and aimed at the balloon in the middle of the target.

The people in group two did archery for their fourth activity. The teachers that participated in group two were Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Windle.

“The arrow was black or wood colour,” said Matt.

“You have to hold the bow in your left hand and hold the string in your right hand.” Mrs Windle said.

It was fun doing Archery! When the group had finished, They had afternoon tea.

Many of the people hit the bale of hay and the balloon. Some even shot over the bale of hay!

The Farmtastic

Looking after farm animals is hard work but also fun as the Middle Unit campers at Kangaroobie Camp found out.

When the Middle Unit of Bellaire Primary School arrived at Camp Kangaroobie they had a discussion then they settled in. After that some of them went straight to the animals.

Everyone really enjoyed what they did. When they started they fed the pigs. One of the pig’s name was Chester who was a Boar or male pig. The Sow, which is the female pig, was called Cherie.

The next thing the campers did was to move cows into another paddock and feed them hay.

“I enjoyed moving the cows.” Will said.

The last thing the campers did was watch Matt, the owner of the camp, catch two little lambs. People got to hold them and pass them around.

“I held a lamb and it was really cool.” Will said.

Everyone had a really good time going around the farm.

Creepy Night Crawlers Shine

On Monday the 21st of August, Middle P went and saw glow worms and there were 200 847 worms there.

When the first group of campers went to see the glow worms there were 200 847 but they only saw a few worms because it was only a little dark not pitch black.

Some people like Will and David thought that the glow worms would have been bigger but the worms were just like little dots.

Gavin was the man who showed were the glow worms are in Melba State Park. The Park is in the bush. When thekids were going to the glow worms they also saw a waterfall.

When the group got to the spot they had to turn off their light otherwise the glow worms would not glow.

“I thought that the glow worms were good but it was a bit let down because they were too small.” said Josh.

“I thought that they were pretty because they were not like a normal light.” said Jemma.

“I think they were disappointing to see they were small lights.” said Peter.

“They were good and the looked like stars and they were bigger than I thought and wonderful.” said Emma.

Overall the campers thought that going to the glow worms was a good thing.

Kids Survive Earthquake and Storm

A group of middles goes to camp and build’s hut’s to see what their score was when their huts are tested in different conditions such as Earthquakes and Storms.

Group five arrived at the hut building on 21st August to find a whole forest of trees and sticks. The activity was hut building so they got to work. There was a big creek with no water in it so it was the perfect place to build a hidden hut.

Most huts built in the creek didn’t get a very good score but the builders got to be lazy because they didn’t have to build walls.

Some groups had tyres, others had twigs but all of the students worked the hardest they ever worked to build a waterproof/earthquake proof hut.

Each had an hour to make a hut that had to hold the whole group. After an hour had slowly gone by it was announced that it was time for testing.

“They poured 4 litres on my hut.” Said Nick a pro hut builder who won the competition for hut building in his group. The first hut was rated nine out of ten, the next was rated nine out of ten too.

The next hut was a disaster with the rain test. The students in it were pretty wet but the hut was pretty earthquake proof so in the end they got rated eight and a half out of ten.

The next was disgraceful and they got soaked! But they were strongest in the group. When an earthquake appeared they were all prepared with no collapsing wood in sight.

“I felt cold and wet.” said David R one of the kids that was in the hut that got soaking wet.

Hut two was good but with the earthquake test anyone in it would have been killed because all the sticks started falling down and then the bark fell down on the rug, (a garbage bag found in the remains of an other old run down hut found in a bunch of bushes).

“ I was wet cold and nervous.” Tom said.

There were many other huts being built at the time but all of them were really good and almost every one got wet! In the end everyone got to destroy the huts and throw every thing away and crush the sticks.

“I felt cool.” said Jemma.

The middles had lots of fun making huts I wonder what they will do next year at Anglesea.

Cabin Wars Rule The Night!!!

There are lots of cabins at Kangaroobie and it is lots of fun. Kids can’t wait to go there!!

When the Middle Unit got there they got cabins. The cabins for the girls were Asia, Joanna, Colina, Napier, Black Witch and New Field.

“It was so cool and I got nearly everyone.” Jemma B from Middle P said.

The cabins for the boys were Elizabeth, Innamika, Schomberg, Falls of Halladale, Eric the red and Fiji.

“Yeah they were so cool.” David R said.

The cabins had duty groups. The duty groups had to set the table and serve up the food to the other campers.

There were also other groups like activity groups. Some people that had people in their cabins got the same people in their activity groups.

“It was so so cool that Chantelle B was in my cabin and in my activity group!” Emma F said.

The boys and girls cabins were spilt into two groups. Each cabin was off a hall.

The students had room inspections and they had to clean their room.

The teachers had cabins too. Mrs Makin and Mrs Windle were in Seabird. Miss Mosley and Miss Houk were in a room in the back cabin so was Mr Pearce and the other two male teachers. Mrs Thomas and Mrs King slept in Maria Gabrielle in the boy’s cabins.

The cabins were so small but at least they got six bunk beds in the cabins. The floors were wood and they were so cold at night, when they jumped on the floor it made a big noise.

Food, Glorious Food At Kangaroobie

The Kangaroobie camp had a variety of foods such as toast, eggs, baked-beans, spaghetti, corn, beans, homemade pies, and a lot of other things.

On Monday night we had Spaghetti and then for desert we had Apple Crumble with whipped cream some people didn’t get whipped cream at all because they didn’t want it.

“I thought it was really nice, and the apple crumble was some of the best I’ve ever had.” said Patrick.

For breakfast on Tuesday the students had Cereal and after that they had toast with eggs and hot chocolate and you were allowed to have porridge as well but you couldn’t have everything.

“I didn’t eat any of the eggs but I enjoy the cereal like Corn Flakes and Wheatbix though I really liked the toast but I think some of it was burnt.” said Thomas.

For morning tea the students had left over cake from the night before, for lunch they had vegies with tomato soup with bread and a cup of cordial and that was all for lunch.

“I enjoyed the left over cake from Sophie’s Birthday and I liked the mint but I didn’t like the icing so I just ate the cake and went around the icing.” said Nick.

For afternoon tea the students had more left over cake from Sophie’s birthday the night before all the people were starving by then they demanded food.

“Sort of, not really, maybe, yes.” said Emma. (Jumbled words from a tired camper) said Will.

Tea for Tuesday was corn, beans, tomato sauce and more and after that they had apple crumble with peaches and whipped cream.

“Yes, it was delicious! I had never had it cooked in that manner before.” said Miss Mosley, Middle P’s student teacher.

On Wednesday the students had to make their own sandwich to take to Port Campbell for lunch.

Silly Perce Prattles Persistently

On the way to Camp Kangaroobie, Bellaire Middle Unit went on three busses. The three bus drivers were Max , Darren and Perce, although Perce is just his nickname his real name is Richard.

Every time Perce said something interesting the rest of the bus would have to say “Ohhhhhhhhhhhh,” and every time Perce would say something silly everyone would have to say “Silly Perce.” Perce had a really weird laugh.

It was Monday the 21st of August when we arrived at camp at 12.00; there were two single busses and one double-decker bus, which had a TV.

On the way to the glow worms on The Great Ocean Road only Perce and Max drove the two busses.

When the campers were going to the Glow worms and going back to school, the bus drivers would point out things like dairy farms and the beef and dairy cattle, and they would have a little bit of info.

People who were on Perce’s were lucky to watch Mr Bean on the TV on the way back to school.

“Mr Bean was so funny.” said David, one of the students on the bus.

“I know you should have seen it it was that funny.” said the rest of the people on the same bus.

“Was it that funny?” said Nick also a student at Bellaire.

“It was funny and it was nice of Perce to let us watch TV.” said Josh. C another student on the bus.

Perce was a good bus driver because he made the trip lots of fun.
